Favorite Movies From 2022

RRR

I tend to watch a lot of movies, but there are many that get released within a year, and I don't find the time to watch them all. 2022 was no different. I still need to watch Everything Everywhere All at Once, Banshees of Inisherin, X, Terrifier 2, etc. The following is a list of my favorite movies that I watched in 2022.

10. The Black Phone

From the man that brought us Sinister and Doctor Strange, we get a sadistic killer that grabs children and keeps them in his basement. I like it when actors embrace playing a villain and that holds true with Ethan Hawke here. It's not the best movie ever, but I really enjoyed it. The mask design was my favorite thing.

9. Nope

Jordan Peele has been nothing but impressed with his run of films. I can't wait to see more from him. Nope didn't disappoint and I don't want to give anything more than that away.

8. Prey

Prey was a nice surprise. I've been aware of Dan Trachtenberg since his Totally Rad Show days. Plus, he did very well with 10 Cloverfield Lane. Prey floated under the radar for me, but man was it fun to watch and see something new brought to the screen for Predators.

7. Scream

No, this was not Wes Craven. But they did an excellent job with the film and honoring the man. Is the franchise getting a little long in the tooth? Maybe, but I'm game to see where it goes.

6. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Evil Dead in the MCU!? Yes, please! Sam Raimi did an excellent job with this film. Was his Scarlet Witch a little off from where we left off with her in Wandavision. Sure. But she was also a little corrupted too. This was a fun ride.

5. Glass Onion

Does Rian Johnson take some liberties with how he tells his stories? Yes. Is he altering the storyline that he's already presented to you? Yes. Is that a problem? Maybe for some. I enjoyed what he's done with these Knives Out mysteries. It's not an ideal way to tell stories if you are trying to solve it yourself. But if you are just there for the ride, it's a lot of fun.

4. RRR

I remember hearing about this one from the Corridor Crew. I was willing to give it a chance. When I first sat down to watch it, I didn't catch that it was a 3+ hour movie. So, I had to reschedule. Once I found the time though, it did not disappoint. I feel this movie touches almost every single genre is a single film. It's an insane movie with many cool visual effects, action scenes, and even a dance number. I highly recommend you give this one a watch.

3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

I was very concerned with how this movie would turn out. After the sad passing of Chadwick Boseman, I was curious how they would proceed. I believe they did a great job of moving forward while paying respect to Boseman and the previous film. Namor was an interesting character. I have to admit, I haven't been exposed to many stories about him. So, that was refreshing to see.

2. Top Gun Maverick

Is this movie heavily inspired by Star Wars? I saw a TikTok that proposed that. Honestly, I see it. That doesn't take much away from the film for me. I loved what they did with it. It was a simple but a very well-executed film.

1. The Batman

I've been saying for years that we need to give people a chance. Robert Pattinson was a good Batman. Matt Reeves and the whole cast and crew brought us an excellent Batman film. I still debate with myself on whether it takes the number one spot for me over The Dark Knight. I can't wait to see more of this universe. I just hope they use the Joker as a Hannibal Lector, from The Silence of the Lambs, type of character and save him as the main villain until the final film. That's all I'm asking for.
